Crazy times, good and bad, during this past Fourth of July weekend. 65 people were shot, including 10 killed and 55 wounded, over the historically violent holiday. One man was shot during an argument about 2 blocks from the Chicago Tribune building as people walked home after the fireworks display at Navy Pier.
Others enjoyed the gorgeous weather on the beaches of Lake Michigan.
I also covered the final Grateful Dead "Fare Thee Well" tour performance at Solider Field, armed only with an iPhone and borrowed Fujifilm X100T. This was the Dead's proclaimed last show ever, although many people are quick to remind that Jerry Garcia died in 1995. I have no particular personal attachment to the Dead, but it was interesting to experience the culture and diehard fans.
